Abstract

Digital repositories have been seen for many years as an enabler to gathering and preserving academic research. More recently it has been realised that the task of preserving digital materials is more complex than simply maintaining the physical bits on disk. The key aim of this conference is to bring these two communities together. This presentation looks at the work started by the Preserv and Preserv2 projects on digital preservation, the outcomes of which are now being integrated directly into the EPrints repository management software. Preserv2 introduces a framework to manage repository classification services, including DROID and newer functionality in PRONOM, which enables risk classification of objects within the repository. This framework has then been integrated into the EPrints platform to provide a single simplistic preservation interface to the repository administrator.
